Japanese interested in Moulton technology
Representatives of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) of Nagoya, Japan, and Jupiter Corporation of Nagoya and Irvine, California, met with Lewis Innovative Technologies, Inc. (LIT) in Moulton recently to discuss co-operative development prospects. From left are E.J. Clement, program manager of LIT; Hiroaki Kitoh, Jupiter Corporation, Japan; James Lewis vice-president and principal engineer of LIT Elizabeth Lewis, president and CEO of LIT; Sean Imai, marketing manager with Jupiter Corporation, USA; and Nobutoshi Hanai, manager with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Nagoya Guidance and Propulsion Systems Works. MHI produces defense electronics for the Japanese military. LIT designs electronics for the Army Aviation and Missile Command in Huntsville. MHI is interested in licensing technology that LIT has developed for the U.S. Army.

Lewis Innovative Technologies and Protokraft collaborate to develop advanced fiber optic modem functions for the PATRIOT Fiber Optic Modem (PFOM) upgrade.
Moulton, AL and Kingsport, TN Moulton, AL-August 1, 2005-Lewis Innovative Technologies and Protokraft announced successful field trials of the new PATRIOT Fiber Optic Modem. The PATRIOT Fiber Optic Modem (PFOM) interfaces the PATRIOT Engagement Control Station (ECS) to the PATRIOT Launching Stations (LS).
The PFOM system demonstrated robust capability which represents the highest performance high speed Ethernet fiber link available.
Protokraft introduced the Lightning Series of bulkhead mounted MIL-DTL-38999 optical transceivers with MIL-T-29504/04 optical interfaces, designed for military, aerospace, industrial, broadcast or utility applications where significant levels of shock and vibration and extreme temperature ranges are experienced. These components are ideal for use in tactical systems where compact size, weight reduction and resistance to harsh environments are highly valued.
Protokraft’s new bulkhead mounted MIL-DTL-38999 optical transceivers are available in a wide range of bit rates and protocols, including Fast Ethernet, 1x/2x Fibre Channel, Gigabit Ethernet and 1x/4x InfiniBand. All versions are fully compliant with the applicable IEEE, ANSI or InfiniBand Architecture Specification requirements.
Designed to operate in harsh environments, these new transceivers feature excellent thermal characteristics, high tolerance to vibration and shock and shielded aluminum housings, for exceptional EMI/RFI performance. All operate from a standard +3.3VDC power supplies.
Among the enhanced performance features selected for the PATRIOT PFOM upgrade were:
Black Zinc-Nickel
plating (instead of Olive Drab Cadmium) on the Mil-Dtl-38999
connectors for ROHS compliance
Extended optical link budget
Straddle-mount printed circuit board attachment eliminating internal cabling for maximum vibration resistance
Lewis Innovative Technologies (LIT) designed the PATRIOT Fiber Optic
Modem for high MTBF, ease of maintenance, and transparent operation. The
PFOM system incorporates LIT’s On-Line-All-the-Time Bite
TM system which allows users to
monitor system health and perform troubleshooting actions while the
system is operating. All PFOM Modules are front-loadable and
hot-swappable.
